hah... so i disappeared again! christmas and all that... you know. its busy!
i'm working (surprise surprise) in kelowna today. it has been snowing like crazy all morning! i think the forecast says 5 to 10 cm this morning. not really looking forward to driving home this afternoon. i have to do some demo's (or rather my students from last year do) for the grand opening of the hub arts collective that is opening in town. that is where i will be teaching my jazz and tap classes this year. i'm excited to have dance classes starting again. and i have a bunch of new students this year! 4 returning... and i have lost count how many new ones.
but... the thing i am MOST excited about lately is that i have finally stopped talking about it, and actually started learning to play my guitar. everyone has been suggesting lessons for a while now, but i was really not interested in going to lessons. i don't want to learn technical things and scales and all that... because... lets face it - i don't ACTUALLY want to play guitar. i just want to sing. and if i have to learn how to play guitar so that i get a chance to sing, well, i will do that. and so all week i have spent hours and hours every day working on learning some songs. i found some really easy ones that i can already sing really well. my fingers are really tender... but i just keep practicing. i actually even brought my guitar to work today so i can practice in my down time.
i know. dedication, right?
so i thought i would share the videos for the songs that i am learning, so you can learn the words too, and can sing along when you all come to my concerts (haha).
classic '90's. SO fun to sing... really loudly, of course.
now... i actually know the against me! cover of this song better than this version... but... this is the original, so i guess technically that's the one i am covering?
hahaha... and my friend casey who works with me here in kelowna, at the radio station LOVES taylor swift. so i set out to find a t swift song that was easy enough for me to learn so i could serenade her. and then i discovered that this song is actually really fun for me to sing. so its cool.
and i hear this one on cbc3 this morning on my way to work and remembered how much i love it. so i looked up the chords... and sure enough they are all ones i can play! so i have been working on it this morning.
there are my projects... maybe next time i share, i can share a video of me PLAYING them and singing. but... i'm really not there yet. haha. i'm still pretty brutal. but it is coming along. and that is very encouraging. i get so excited that playing along to my singing hasn't actually been as hard as i had anticipated. i thought it would take me a lot longer to get to where i am.
WOOHOO!!!

ReplyDeleteYay, way to get on it! I think singing and playing the guitar at the same time is super cool. Which pretty much means you are super cool. I already thought that though.
