yankee bayonet.

i'm actually not currently listening tot his song, but i am thinking about it. i'm at work. the songs here suck. but 'yankee bayonet' is by a group called the decemberists. i just renewed my love of them. all their songs tell a story, and it isn't an obvious story. this particular song is beautiful. you should check it out!

so tyler and i found a new place. we move march 1st. i'm so excited. 4 weeks is far too long. this new place not only has an oven, but a BRAND new one. brand new set, in fact. no leaks! his sister's boyfriend owns it. apparently renee (tyler's sister) is going to be our landlord. although she says that if she has to be the landlord, she would like to be called the queen of the land. haha. we also have a washer and dryer hook up. and monty (the boyfriend) just totally renovated it. ripped everything out, fixed all the wiring and the plumbing, and hardwood and tile downstairs, and then carpet upstairs. it looks really really nice. i'm very excited. it has really high ceilings, and lots of windows. woo! haha. also, monty doesn't want a damage deposit. he says they don't do anything really. because if someone is going to damage your rental property they are going to do a lot more than a couple hundred dollars damage. whatever, it means i can probably get my derby skates sooner.

i finally have an appointment to finish my tattoo on my arm. which is also very exciting. march 24th. too bad it is so far away. oh well. it will probably come sooner than i think. its nice because it is already paid for, so i don't have to worry about that.

i'm really not feeling this today. i don't really know what to talk about, and i don't have a lot of energy. probably because i don't want to be here right now. too bad! i have 5 hours left of this today. agh. oh well. must do what i must do. speaking of musts... tyler and i really need to go grocery shopping. we're pretty much out of food. i'm making chili tonight, that should hold us over for a little while. but i would rather freeze it for later days. we do have a whole bunch of veggie burgers in the freezer too. i just don't feel like eating them. they ARE good though. i still haven't used my bread maker... i know i know, i really should. tyler always jokes and says we should just give it back because i haven't used it. but i want to... i just haven't been motivated to do anything like that. and it hasn't helped since i found out that we're moving, because now i don't want to spend half of my day baking cookies 6 at a time. i just wanna put it off this month, until next month when i have a REAL oven to use for baking cookies with a REAL cookie sheet that fits way more than 6 cookies.

i discovered the best way to avoid needing to go to the gym - carry a heavy tray up and down stairs for about 7 hours wearing heels. your calves will want to fall off. last night i didn't think my legs could carry me anywhere anymore. it was AWFUL feeling. but i made it through. and today, they are still tight, but not quite as painful. at the pub, the upstairs is weird. i was serving in this one section right by the bar. but i also have two tables in the next section over. when you come upstairs there is a little landing with more stairs on either side (like 3 if you go right, and maybe 4 if you go left. to get to the bar to get any of your drinks you have to go down the 3 stairs, and then up the 4. it kills me. but i'm probably going to have the nicest legs ever eventually. not to mention when biking season starts again for me. our new place is closer to town, so i can bike to and from work in the summer. yay! we can save on insurance and gas in the summer, which is awesome.

well... i should probably actually start doing my job. haha. i don't want to, but thats what they pay me for....

i'll be on the water.

i'm hanging at home today. it is a WHOLE day off, and i get two in a row. i'm really excited about it. tyler and i have a plan to sort through some things later and throw stuff out. haha. should be fun!

i got up this morning shortly after tyler left and decided to finish off the last three episodes of the third season of mad men. they were so good! season 4 is going to be amazing - i'm just bummed i have to wait forever now. in the meantime i am downloading some new shows to watch on my own so i don't get bored. deadwood is looking really promising. i hear its really good.

tyler and i have officially decided that we're moving. in fact, he told our landlords today. march 1st we will be out of here and into a place that has, at the very least, an oven. WOO! haha. i have put up with this for quite long enough. our fridge is leaking, and has been for a few months now. they have done nothing. there was even a FREE fridge on the side of the road just up the road from us. still nothing. tyler asked them about it, and they said they haven't even looked for something. its frustrating. and then yesterday our toilet started to leak, and not just a little. A LOT. tyler says the wax seal is broken or something? he got the stuff, and is going to fix it himself because he is handy and can do that kind of thing. he told our landlords that he's going to fix it. apparently the guy was pretty choked when tyler told him we were leaving. tyler told him that we wanted an oven and laundry, and that they still hadn't done anything about the fridge and we were frustrated. so that's that, i suppose. tyler's sister's boyfriend has a place that he just renovated that he said he will rent to us if we can't find a place before the end of february. so at least we don't have the stress of HAVING to find something, and we won't get forced into something awful because we run out of time.

its hard. i don't want to live in someone's basement after living in a whole house by ourselves. it really sucks that we can't afford to just buy a house now. we want to find a place to rent that we can spend the next couple of years in, until we are ready to buy. i feel confident that we can find a better place. considering all the issues here, i really don't think it will be hard. but i feel confident that we can find a place that we will be comfortable and happy in. and it will give us a chance to go through our stuff TOGETHER and get rid of stuff (tyler keeps some of the weirdest stuff... and i'm sure he thinks some of the stuff i have kept is useless too). at least i also don't have to worry about super cleaning the place! especially considering i have kept it cleaner than when we moved in anyway. they should give us double the damage deposit we gave them considering the shape it was in when we moved in. agh. frustrating. NEVER AGAIN!

and after the reaction i got last time i told you all about something tyler did... i'm going to tell this story. its really quite funny, i think. on sunday night i had a dream. its was kind of a common themed dream for me, but they always freak me out. i was being followed by a really creepy guy, who i knew was eventually going to get me. i woke up with my heart racing, and scared. told tyler i had a bad dream, and he asked if i was okay. i said yes. tried to get comfortable again, but i had to pee. BUT, because of my dream, my imagination prevented me from getting up to go to the washroom. i told tyler, and he simply responded by asking me if i wanted him to get up with me. haha. so he got up and walked with me to the washroom. he said it was okay, he had to go too. it blew me away. STILL does. haha. i can't think of anyone else who would ever have done something like that for me. it was very sweet.

anyway... that's all. i'm gonna go back to downloading shows to watch, and cleaning the house.

leap year.

this isn't actually what i am currently listening to, because i'm at work. but i WAS listening to it in the car on my way over year. over and over, in fact. its by maria taylor. a girl i was friends with (and got my first tattoo with) showed it to me a few years ago, and i was really taken with it. but she used to play it off a mix cd someone had made her, and i never knew what it was called. i knew the artist (it is one of the vocalists of a group called azure ray). i FINALLY sound it after spending an entire afternoon searching around. i downloaded 3 of her albums (one actually just came out) they are all awesome! but i especially love this one song. its off her first solo album, called '11:11'.

i really want to get my skates and stuff for roller derby. alas, i must wait. have to pay all our bills, and rent, and then see what is left over. its kind of a lot of money. agh. its frustrating, because i want to play so bad. i want to start practicing on skates and get good at it. i want to be excellent. i hate not being good at things. which i realize sounds silly. but its true. i am a born perfectionist. i can't help it! roller derby is all i can think about right now actually, i think it may be hindering my performance at work currently. i'm just anxious to get out there and try it.

i should probably just stop writing. i have too much of a one track mind.

little bit.

when tyler and i first started talking all the time he sent me the video for this song. we have been friends since i was 15, but there have been periods of time where we didn't talk so much. i mean naturally, we've both done a lot of things that have taken us away from who we were 8 years ago (wow that sounds like a long time....). i was living in calgary. tyler was the first person i ever talked to about how much i thought making a mix cd for someone is a big deal. this was.... just over 3 years ago? he moved back from vancouver and promptly dropped off a mix cd for me. i was in the process of a really tough break up, and rough part of my life in general. tyler was one of the only people i had told that i was going to leave my current boyfriend. it was scary. he helped me. there were feelings there, and we both knew it. the songs on the cd he gave me spoke to me. it was weird. the disc got lost somehow in my many moves, but i can still remember all the songs on it. when i hear them they still hold something special for me.

we went on a couple dates after that, and then he basically dropped off the face of the planet for a little over a year. which was weird, considering he moved back from vancouver and we were both in vernon. vernon isn't very big.

so... this song (lykke li - little bit) was another one that said something to me. he liked me. i knew it. haha. i love this song. its very tyler. i suppose it was a matter of timing. since i was 15 one of us has always had a crush on the other at different points in time, but it was never possible. or just not the right time. i'm not too sure why i'm writing about this, but it just feels like coming out right now i guess.

yesterday was not as productive as i had hoped. haha. i made oatmeal cookies. BUT, in my defense, i forgot that i was going to soak my own beans for the veggie burgers instead of buying a can... so i had to put the beans on to soak. they are soaking now. i'll probably make the burgers tomorrow before work. i was checking out the recipe i plan on using for cinnamon buns. although, i don't have a rolling pin. which will prove to be a challenge. i think i need to get one first or it will be impossible.

i DID go watch the roller derby practice in armstrong though (YES!). i am so joining. haha. i have to wait till next month to order roller skates and all the pads and helmet (money). but i am soooooo excited about it. tyler has been very not stoked on the whole thing, and it was really bothering me. last night when i got home, i finally made him tell me why he couldn't be supportive of me doing something i really want to do. he's scared of me getting beat up. haha. coming home with big bruises and getting hurt. he's funny. always worried about me. we went grocery shopping on tuesday evening between his work and mine. we took the car, cause he said there wasn't enough room in his truck for all the groceries (aka he didn't want to drive...) and so he made me drive. the car is i guess making some sounds when i turn the wheel or something? i didn't even notice. i think he's just used to driving a brand new vehicle now. anyway, he stressed out the entire time we were out because he thinks there is something seriously wrong with the car. he worries that i'm going to be on my way to work one day and it is going to just fall apart on me.

hilarious.

i sent patrick my list of artists and songs that i would like to play. i haven't heard anything back from him, i probably will today. i'm trying not to get too excited about it. although i believe that there is virtually no difference between this music and the music we already play (except that mine is infinitely better and not over played) other than the way it is marketed, i don't think anyone is going to go for it. we'll see, i suppose.

booorrreeeddddddd....

hockey on the radio. hanging out. we tried a new thing for broadcasting the game tonight - doing it through the computer. i'm not sure exactly how it worked, but the engineer came in and helped me set it up. i have switched back to the phone line now (the computer thing was too fuzzy when he got loud or there was a lot of noise in the background). but before i switched it i started to hear funny things. i was on a commercial break, and i had the announcers mic on cue (so i can hear him, but it isn't on air). i started hearing sighing and breathing and whatever... i start looking around. and then i think, 'did he just sneeze?' so i do an extra commercial, and i can hear the announcers saying 'why are we doing 60 here?'. and right before i turn their mics back on, i hear 'i'm gonna kill you' in an attempted creepy sounding voice. i kind of look around - at the computer, back at the board. i put them on. i hear it again. and then i figure it out. rob, my old boss (from when i was 16 and worked here for 3 years) and the sports guy, is in the news booth, and trying to freak me out. it sent instant feelings of panic through my stomach as i thought it was something with the computer and it was going on air. but it wasn't. and it didn't. so no harm done. it was pretty funny actually. and then rob gave me a box of honey nut cheerios. cool beans.

i think i got a bit excited about the prospect of me getting a show prematurely. i don't know how good of a shot i have, or if i really have one at all. i shouldn't really say this just yet, as i haven't yet finished the mix to give patrick. i think he has an idea of something completely different than what i actually want to play.

yesterday during my monday afternoon shift i was OFF. SO OFF. i had no idea what i was saying. word vomit was coming out of my mouth, and things i was saying didn't make sense. i said 'news forecast'. wtf is a news FOREcast? what is GOING to happen in our community. agh. oh dear. i was BRUTAL. i kept pressing wrong buttons. patrick said i was probably under a great deal of stress, and to just chill and not worry about it. he said everyone makes operating mistakes, that he himself made one just the other day. OH WELL. i didn't do anything TOO major, in terms of operating. i did, however, sound like a complete twit when i was talking. i guess that happens sometimes too. also... right in the beginning of my shift... there was dead air because i was behind in time, and the news cue came early, and the news director wasn't there yet. and then they all told me i had to add a song. so i added feist, my moon my man (the only song we have in our library that i LOVE). as soon as the song starts, the music director comes barreling in asking 'WHY are we playing this right now?' and my meek, feeble response '... they told me i had to add a song because i was behind?' and she proceeded to tell me that the song was in our rest category, meaning we aren't actually supposed to play it.

oops?

i was all freaked out after that. shaken up. she was scary.

tyler and i have joined our bank accounts. we decided that it made more sense for saving for a house together to just have all our funds together. we pay for everything together anyway. all our bills, rent, insurance, groceries. whatever. when we go out and do stuff... we take turns paying for stuff... there isn't really 'my money' and 'your money' anyway. so we just joined it! and we made a budget. we should be able to pay off the money i owe, and save a good chunk every month to put away for a house.

i cleaned the entire house today. it was in dire need of a good cleaning. i have been so busy, and had so much going on, that it just wasn't really possible to do before now. i got all the laundry put away, our whole room cleaned. and i noticed some things about tyler (i was teasing him about it already... haha). he is a stasher. any corner of the house that there isn't anything in, or a surface that you could leave something on, or a hook to hang something on... he puts something there. i was walking around picking up jackets, taking pajamas and t-shirts off the hook on the back of the bathroom door, and all kinds of other random things and putting them where they ACTUALLY BELONG. also, when tyler changes, he just throws his clothes over the doors of his wardrobe. so there are big piles of stuff hanging over there. he loses track of so many things he owns, and totally forgets about them. i hung everything up. and organized his wardrobe. also, it killed me putting his laundry away in his dresser. he does the same thing that actually a lot of people i've known do. it's like horror for me. since i was little, the organization of one's dresser is KEY. everything must be folded, and put in drawers with like items in a specific place. my dresser is very well organized. in my younger days i would opt out of putting things away, out of laziness, and just put things on the floor. but i would never just shove things in my drawers. tyler takes the piles of laundry that i neatly fold for him, and just puts them in a drawer. again, totally losing things and forgetting he has them. so i took everything out and organized that too. it made me feel much better about putting everything away.

i also vacuumed, unloaded, loaded, and unloaded the dishwasher, washed what was left, tidied the house in general, and got all the recycling together to take in (hopefully tomorrow...). AND... i watched 6 episodes of mad men. haha. i'm on episode 9 of season 2. its so good. i think i'm just totally fascinated with the time period, and thats all it comes down to. tyler and i did a big grocery shop when he finished work, and before i came to work. tomorrow my task is making veggie burgers and oatmeal cookies. i also am planning on trying to take cinnamon buns (in my bread maker and toaster oven... haha). and later this week i've got chili and spring rolls on the menu. my plan is to make a bunch of stuff that we can freeze, and then tyler can heat up and eat when i'm not home. save money, eat healthier, everyone wins!

anyway... that is all...

kings and queens.

i feel like exciting things are happening right now. but at the same time, i don't know how much i feel like talking about it? weird? i don't know why.

i played wii fit for a while this morning. its pretty cool. except that it very closely monitors your weight, how much you have worked out on it, and how often. i guess its kind of a good thing. i could have just gotten a gym pass, and gone whenever i wanted to. but lets face it... i probably would procrastinate about it, because that is what i do best, and no one would say anything and i would just forget that i had spent money on it altogether. but with this... i almost feel like the video game is judging me! haha. that cheerful little voice telling me that if i do it on a daily basis i am more likely to succeed at the goal that i made for myself and have more accurate results with my balance testing and stuff. so weird. i recommend it for everyone who likes to work out at home but doesn't know how, and maybe lacks motivation.

so now what is going on with me, you say? well i am getting more and more time at kiss fm. and better and better spots. apparently i did really well on my first monday afternoon (the drive home, from 4-7) and patrick e-mailed me to tell me that for the remaining two mondays in january, i will be on from 2-7. i think they are short bodied because kelsi is gone. i'm also going to have my picture taken for the wall and the website for tomorrow. i'm gonna bug rob about getting a jock profile thing done for the website too. i'm pretty much as legit as they get! haha.

also... yesterday i had lunch with trystan and his mom. i really like trystan's mom. we get along really well. i hadn't seen her in a while since trystan has a new erin in his life and him and i hang out MUCH less. after lunch she asked me if i wanted to tag along to her hair appointment with erin. so i did. erin was supposed to cut my hair later on that evening, but she ended up just giving me my trim while loralei was toning. i spent A LONG time hanging out in the hair salon, it was fun. i really like erin's boss, peter. he always says erin and i are like his little sisters and he likes to support us with our projects with things. he has done a lot for erin with her career as a hair dresser. he is also a big music fan. him and i were talking about my job at the radio station and how i wish i could play better music and would love to have a show where i got to program what i play. i would have so much more fun playing artists i actually care about and know about. music is my passion. just... good music, not radio music. it somehow came up... and peter wants to look into sponsoring a show for me to do just that. wants to find out how much it would be. he told me he should be switching his radio advertising so he can get me in there to do stuff for them.

today erin texted me and was like, he's serious. he wants to know how much it would be.

so i sent patrick an e-mail about how badly i want to do this and why and why it WOULD work for this station and their demographic. asked about the possibility of being able to do it if there was a sponsor for the show. i haven't heard anything back yet. i have a sneaking suspicion that he won't be into it, and it will get dismissed, and i'll keep playing men without hats 4 times on sundays, and taylor swift as many times as will be allowed. oh well. can't say i haven't tried... numerous times.

i've been watching mad men by myself lately. tyler wasn't into it. its set in 1960, and its about an advertising firm in manhattan. its AWESOME. i'm so into it. the clothes make me wish i could just build a time machine, go back in time, and steal everything they used to wear. even though i have the wrong body type, and it won't fit me anyway. oh well. anyway, i woke up at like 6 this morning talking in my sleep about how i love the show, but sometimes its hard to watch because its so sexist. tyler thought this was HILARIOUS. agh. bugged me about it till he left for work. haha. it is incredibly sexist. and the women just let the men treat them like that. expect it even. most of them are so dumb. but... i suppose it is true to the time period and the occupation.

and now... i have to go make myself pretty for work.

reason to believe.

today is day 9 of 10. that's right, i got another shift added on. but its kind of a good thing. the station asked me to work tomorrow, and the following monday as well, for the drive home. the 4 - 7 shift. patrick says he wants to see how i do in one of their top rated spots. i have a lot that i know i haven't been doing very well, but i want to give it a shot.

i've been reconsidering my ideas about moving to toronto and fashion school all together. i think that maybe the fact that i'm okay with the idea of giving it up is a sign it isn't worth moving across the country for. and the more i think about it, the more i'm unsure i want to move that far away again. and then i factored in the fact that i wouldn't be done school until i'm 28. that puts me at almost 30 with student loans, no guarantee on a good job, and living on the other end of the country where i don't particularly think i want to live forever. i would like to think that i am thinking practical. i love bc. i even love the okanagan. its like part of me is wanting to do what i always do, take off in search of something great and fantastic. maybe there is nothing wrong with my life here. i have some good opportunities with the radio station, and i got a pretty good job at the pub. i have a great life. there is no need to upset that. besides, sewing and designing could make a better hobby than job for me, i do believe. i think i will enjoy it more. i already have so much of the equipment and some of the knowledge. the internet has tons of things for me to discover to help me along the way. i think i'll just try and do it for myself by myself instead of spending a ton of money to move and go to school.

maybe its just time to put down some permanent roots. tyler wants to buy a house in lumby. i said NEVER will i EVER live in lumby, nevermind BUY a house there. agh. no way. what a scuzzy little town. its a village for eff sake. the VILLAGE of lumby. aggh. gross. if i was to buy a house... it would be a cute little really old house that needs love and fixing up. one of those old homes with fantastic weird little rooms and corners for reading chairs next to big windows. thats the kind of house i would want to live in forever. old hardwood floors that have so much personality they almost have a voice of their own. i could make curtains, and paint any colour i wanted. and a yard with big old trees and a garden of my own.

but all that is a long long long ways away. first things first.

i don't really have much more to say, considering i have been working a million days in a row and nothing very exciting has really happened. i've just been thinking a lot about a lot of different things.

Thursday, January 7, 2010

the last page.

so today is day 6 of 9 in a row. woo! almost done. it hasn't been that bad. i don't actually feel like i have been working so hard all the time without any time to do anything. i think its because i'm working nights. so i spend my days doing things, seeing people, hanging out. it isn't too bad. i have been behind in the housework department (i am just finishing up the dishes that have been in the sink for a while). i need to grocery shop... tyler hasn't really been making himself dinner when i'm not home and so hasn't been eating very well. which is BAD. tomorrow will be cleaning out the fridge (or maybe i will get to that today?), folding the laundry (there is so much of it! ah!) and cleaning the bathroom. agh.

i updated genius on our itunes and it made me a fantastic playlist from that song i'm in love with, 'its okay' by land of talk. i am currently very much enjoying it. i love itunes genius. it finds great music i maybe haven't listened to and puts it altogether with a song that i love and so i love them all.

pretty exciting news! i finally got a hold of my sister sarah yesterday. i haven't talked to her in YEARS! she came on facebook for maybe the second time that i have ever seen. i got her phone number, and voila. talking. its good. i want to plan a trip up to prince george to meet my niece and nephew i haven't met yet, and of course... remeet my niece annabelle, who i haven't seen since she was 1. sarah says she shows them all pictures of me and tells them about me. which is sweet. when i told tyler i wanted to go he got kinda huffy and asked when we were going to alberta to visit his dad. in the heat of things he said, 'we can only make one trip a year eryn!'. which is completely absurd. i had to take a ton of time off last year (in the summer alone!) for us to do stuff. camping. calgary. funtastic. whatever. time can be made to do everything. i'm certain of this. also... i have a new job! which promises to make me more money than my previous job. so thats fantastic, really.

anyway... i should be off to do my grocery shopping. time is a' wasting!

its okay.

this song is possibly my new favourite. its so good. its by a band called land of talk. the lead singer always plays beautiful guitars (gibsons, my fav) with beautiful beautiful tone. i'm pretty in love with this band right now. and this song is so good. i watched a live video on youtube that made me love it.

this post IS all about music. i realized, oh, yesterday that i think i have a serious addiction to music. its a bit ridiculous. tyler's computer has 16 and a half thousand songs on it. and about 13 thousand of those just came off my ipod (or have been added to the computer by me for my ipod). so my december playlist is so super fantastic, i couldn't get it less than 25 songs. i HIGHLY recommend checking out any of these songs, even if you just watch some videos on youtube. i think you will fall in love with them as i did.

1. the raveonettes - bang!
2. au revoir simone - shadows
3. the xx - shelter
4. the raconteurs - these stones will shout
5. test-icicles - circle square triangle
6. a fine frenzy - electric twist
7. jenny lewis - acid tongue
8. the hidden cameras - walk on
9. roxy rawson - riddle it
10. said the whale - this city's a mess
11. cuff the duke - confessions from a parkdale basement
12. sondre lerche - heartbeat radio
13. joel plaskett - wishful thinking
14. ani difranco - light of some kind

also... there is still a mix cd offer up? no takers?

landslide.

at work again. bored. writing.

being on air for 6 hours is hard. its hard to have enough to talk about for 6 hours. i mean seriously... in the beginning of january, when there is NOTHING going on in the community, i have to be on air for 6 hours. yikes.

i feel like i have a lot to do today. tomorrow is my first day in a 7 day straight of working. its weird to go from not working for like 2 weeks, to working a week straight. and i start work when tyler finishes work. i'm guessing i probably won't get home before he goes to bed. kinda sucky. oh well. should be making some good money... hopefully.

there are still so many commercials on air for immunization. you would think that everyone would have realized that no one is dying of the swine flu by now. i mean flu season is pretty much over, no? and i don't know that i have heard ANY reported deaths in the okanagan. although, that could just be me not paying attention... but i'm pretty sure people should realize by now that getting immunized maybe isn't a good idea. or maybe everyone just thinks that because they got immunized the swine flu didn't kill all of us. or i'm sure thats what health canada is telling them.

ridiculous.

i haven't gotten to work on my dress pattern anymore, but i am hoping tomorrow day will provide some time for that. and also maybe some time to figure out how to use my bread maker, finally. if anyone has some good bread maker recipes, SEND 'EM MY WAY! i don't really know the full capability of a bread maker. i did read on the box that mine can make jam too, which i thought was pretty cool. i'm sure there will come a time when i can't just steal jam from my mom's stash (not that i have in a while... i don't actually really like jam, or toast, that much).

i'm still working on my december play list. its pretty long. so much good music came my direction last month. and ALL of it festive free (just the way i like it). i made my mom, dean, kaetlyn, and andrew each a mix cd for christmas (as i usually do). so far all the feedback has been good. here's an idea!!! if any of you would like a mix cd, give me a list of 10 of your favourite bands, and your address... and i will make you a cd and mail it to you.

cool. i like music projects.

back to focusing on work, i suppose.

hockey radio. yuck.

i have only got two more pieces done on my pattern. but i am feeling confident that i am doing it correctly. getting all the curves right, and adding the right amount for my size. unfortunately i don't understand patterns like that enough to completely custom fit it to me... but on the chart, the size i am going for is pretty close to perfect for me. i hope so anyway.

i don't really know WHY i am writing, or WHAT i am writing about. i just felt like it. i found out that my old best friend who is dating my ex boyfriend is pregnant. i feel pretty weird about it. i'm not really attached to either person, at all, but it just feels weird. its a weird thought.

two of my very good friends got engaged on new years eve!!! very exciting. i wasn't surprised or shocked. i knew they were just waiting because all their other friends got engaged... they wanted their own thunder for it. heather has 2 years left of school, so they'll get married when she's done. i'm very very very happy for both of them. PLUS, i get to be a bridesmaid. WOO! it'll be fun. i've never been a part of a wedding party before (other than being my mom's flower girl when i was like 3 or something... that doesn't count though). big congratulations for heather and mike. much happiness to come.

perhaps i'm just killing time because i am so bored. due to operating this hockey game currently.

my counterpart at the radio station, jen, is leaving for australia in like a week. so i get to take her sunday shift (yay!). i'll be on air from 12-6 every sunday until kelsi gets back from wherever she is (sometime in the spring, i think? no one really knows for sure...). and then it will just be a 2 hour shift. whatever. i also get to do quite a few hockey games this month, which will be good for my financial situation. although i am confident that will all turn around after this month. by the end of this coming week i should be up and fully serving at sir winston's. which will be great for the wallet. and that along with picking up all these shifts at the station i think will be just right. and neither is a regular 9-5 kind of job... i don't think the standard 9-5 makes me very happy. it just doesn't excite me. i think you have to be a little excited about your job.

speaking of being excited... i am excited to use my new found talents with recording phone calls and putting them on air this weekend. after the hockey game and tomorrow i am going to ask people to call in and tell me about their new years resolutions. i think its a pretty solid idea. and speaking of resolutions mine are as follows: i would like to lose 10 pounds. i know it isn't much. but i think its just my little bit of extra weight i am carrying around. the little bit that makes the difference between just being, and being in shape! i plan to get a gym pass (i know, i know) as soon as my wallet will allow and start going with my friend mikha (from the fare) to the ladies gym. i think it could be fun. i want to be TONED. another resolution is to make myself an entire wardrobe this year. i now have all the tools. i have all the ladies wear pattern making blocks. i want to learn to use them, at least some of them, and design my own patterns. if i can successfully grade the patterns i have now, i think it will be a big feat. and finally... i want to learn to play an instrument. at least a few chords. a simple song. SOMETHING. i always feel so incompetent. i want to make my own music... but its so hard when i don't play anything. and my friend that i have been writing some songs with (not lately... i suck) is moving to langley. so lame.

... i don't think i have anything else to blab about. thats all.

oh my dear...

no music playing currently. tyler is playing video games.

why are we up so late, you might ask. well that is a very good question - we're usually in bed by a respectful hour. we went to game night. it was pretty fun. we played a few rounds of killer bunnies (total dork game... but really fun) and some team trivial pursuit. when the last game finally ended... we came home. but weren't tired. and so now tyler is playing his uber dorky video game he got on boxing day (and is totally addicted to), and i am embarking on possibly the most daunting task i have ever faced.

there was a big sale at fabricland today. i went, and was VERY excited to find that the vogue patterns were on for $5.99 - which is amazing. i had been eying up the vogue vintage patterns for a while. they are regularly $33. but they are the same patterns they had in the 40's and 50's. i got two dress patterns. one from 1948 and the other from 1957. sooo cute. i also got some fantastic fabric for the easier of the two patterns. its the 1957 dress. the fabric is satin-ey lime green with brown giraffe type spots on it. i love it. its kind of... almost tacky, but awesome. love love love it. i also got a pattern for some skirts which i could wear to work, and some fabric for the dress pattern i got for christmas. it was a good haul. i came home feeling VERY accomplished, and with some steady sewing work ahead of me (after cutting out patterns for what would feel like eternity!).

i will note to you the one major error i made. i couldn't find the sizing chart for the vogue patterns. i got one that was a size 6 - 8 - 10.

when i got home i quickly busted out the pattern for the dress which i planned to make out of the wonderful fabric i found, and started cutting. i then think, 'i should look for a sizing chart somewhere before i cut for a specific size'. the other pattern that i got for christmas is (i'm pretty sure) standard dress makers size? i am a size 6. i found the sizing chart for this one... OH NO. i should be a 14. and i had already started cutting...

refusing to give up the beautiful plan i had in my head for this garment... i remember my handy dandy set of rulers (from my brief go at fashion design school in 2006) and decide, 'no problem, i'll just grade the pattern pieces up two sizes!'. so i cut out all the pieces in the size 10.

so now i have the most daunting task of my life in front of me. first - trace all the pattern pieces on to news print. second - grade everything and hope that my logical thinking is actually the right way to do this. third - cut all the now news print pieces out. and then follow pattern instructions as usual.

i have done two SMALL pieces. luckily... there aren't that many pieces for this pattern. and luckily they all seem to be graded fairly easily... at least i THINK it makes sense to me. and what the eff would i do without my hip curve, and curved ruler, and oh so handy clear ruler.

i'm sure i will be writing about frustrations with this product. i am REALLY hoping the outcome is good.
